Days 18-20

Istanbul
Spent the weekend in Istanbul with George and his coworkers Judy, Lisa, and Cherry, who were in town from Shanghai. Some highlights:
- An evening full of raki at Taksim Square (raki facilitates excellent Mandarin language skills!)
- View of the Marmara Sea from hotel window
- Lunch with Deniz at Ciya Sofrassi (crossed over to Asia!) + handmade baklava, tea at Moda
- 7 dıfferent modes of transportation were attempted: bus, dolmus (jitney), Havas, light rail, ferry, taxi, suburban train (attempted). City planning conundrum (there are 20M people living here!)
- Hamam and Turkiısh towel buying frenzy
- The comforts of friendship with the adventures that come with foreign places
- Offering mushroom stew to the taxi driver while chowing down ın backseat of cab

I love travel but not tourism. Thanks for a great weekend!
