Day 10

Incommunicado
Today I ran into the old woman agaın, sans prancing lambs, and it turns out that her name ıs not Anna - it's Shahsene. Her granddaughter, Halil, was also there, and she helped me gather large chunks of dirt to plug up the irrigation channels for the baby olive trees. It's amazing how much can be communicated simply by pointing, showing, and oogaboogah noises. Note to self to try this with Bryan in the kitchen.

Both Shahsene and Halil were godsends today. Had they not given me encouragement by helping out in their small but meaningful ways, like gathering stones and bringing me snacks, the one lady baby olive show could have easily turned ınto a one-lady farm wreck by sundown. Instead, we shared some good times. With their guidance, the Chinese circus monkey learned a few things: ekmek, biber, domates, dut (bread, pepper, tomatoes, mulberries), and was rewarded dut for learning 4 Turkish words. Hooray for Chinese monkey!
